Day 8 - Get out and go for a walk
It is obvious from the videos that I have been filming that I
have gone out for a number of walks recently. But I want to advocate that you
go out for a walk not just for exercise but to restore your mind and heart.
Sometimes after a long day it’s easy to come home with a lot on
my mind. There also can be a lot can be going on at home. I can hit an anxious
moment that starts to boil over, but if I just step out front door, get a
breath of fresh air, and go for a walk by the lakefront, things can change very
quickly.
Tonight I brought Psalm 23 along with me. “The Lord is my
shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever.”
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever.”
Let me encourage you that if you have an anxious moment, feel
overwhelmed by everything that’s going on, or isolated at home, then get out
and go for a walk. Take in the beauty that’s all around us. Let God clear your
mind and heart.
